Chapter Fourteen

Aaron kicked the last of the sick off his shoes. It was a juggling act, as he was balancing a tipsy Dorie over his shoulder. He was only slightly worried that having her upside down with her belly pressed into his shoulder might induce another upchuck. But it was better than the alternative.

The alternative being that he left Dorie on that dance floor with all those predatory gazes on her. When Aaron had walked into the club, he'd instantly spotted his brother. Caleb was at the bar, surrounded by a group of college coeds.

No surprise there. Caleb never had trouble attracting women. Aaron didn't either. He just didn't try to catch any of the women who reached out for him. He'd always only had eyes for one woman. His gaze now landed on her baby sister.

Dorie looked nothing like the chubby-cheeked adolescent he remembered. Her hourglass figure swayed on the dance floor. She was both snake and charmer as she shimmied her hips and wound her hands above her head. Before the first guy could slither his way toward her, Aaron beat them all to it.

Right now, he had to keep his hands off her lush curves as she wiggled over his shoulder. Aaron struggled between holding her firm to him and trying not to cop a feel. It was the hardest mission he'd ever undertaken. The sooner he got her home in her bed, the better. But the thought of Dorie in a bed had his hands clenching again.

"Dorie, where's your car?"

"I didn't drive. I was planning to get drunk. Do you think I'm that irresponsible? You're just like my sister. She thinks I'm still a kid."

Dorie Reyes definitely wasn't a kid anymore. Even her voice, slurred with spirits as it was, was all grown up. It had a smoky quality to it that made a man think of pressing a cigar to his lips and—

Aaron gave himself another shake of the head. That movement was too close to Dorie's backside, which was right next to his temple. He was having the most inappropriate thoughts about his soon-to-be sister-in-law. He had to get her off his body fast.

"Caleb, can you find your way home? I'm gonna put Dorie to bed—I mean, take her home. To her house."

Caleb chuckled. Those sharp hazel eyes flashed under the dim street lighting, telling all that he knew something they didn't know. "I'm sure I'll be okay."

He winked at the women waiting in the doorway behind him. Caleb was never short on attention. The problem was he had a short attention span where women were concerned. Aaron had the exact opposite problem. He couldn't stop thinking about the same woman.

Glinda had had a busy day and had said she didn't have time to see him. But if he delivered her sister home safe, maybe he could peek in on her, and she'd see him save the day with her sister. Because that's what he was doing. He was saving the day. Like a hero.
